Behind “The Mind Heist”

Our latest mega illusion, “The Mind Heist”, is coming up in a few weeks (7 Jan 2012, Sat, 3pm) and anticipation has been building. We are attempting to set a world record of reading the minds of 100 people in one sitting!

More than a handful of media have committed to covering the stunt; including, Channel News Asia “AM live”, Channel News Asia News, Razor TV, OMY, ST Life, Shin Min Daily, Xinmsn, Today, Class 95.0 with Jean Danker Cartunes, 98.7 with the Muttons as well international magic media magazines and portals. Catch us on TV, radio, print and online in the upcoming weeks!

I must say that “The Mind Heist” is one of our most challenging mega illusions on several fronts. For one, this is the first mega illusion that has involved so many variables with 100 “subjects” who are all critical to the success to the stunt.

One of the difficulties in this illusion is to manage the entire 100 people in an efficient and entertaining fashion but at the same time ensure we abide by the set proceedings to ensure we qualify for the world record if we hit all 100 minds. From a magic technical and show production stand-point, this is the most difficult part of the feat. We have been working on this for months but recently had a final full-day production meeting to work out all the proceedings.

The other challenge is producing this as a proper “show” for the live Internet streaming audience. This will not be a static camera covering the event but will be a 3 – 4 camera set-up to cover the stunt from different angles. There will be a TV host as well to ensure the Internet audience has the best possible experience in watching the mega illusion as it unfolds live. A full camera rehearsal and technical run through will be conducted before the actual event to ensure all goes smoothly on the actual day.

Here is a preview of what to expect at “The Mind Heist”:

One hour before the start of the stunt, representatives from the Singapore Book of Records and the International Brotherhood of Magicians will oversee Ning & myself being blindfolded, ear-plugged and seated in an isolated “black box” with 3/4″ of glass between us and anyone else. This procedure is to ensure that we do not have contact with any of the 100 people or our crew prior to the mega illusion. The isolate black box is situated downstairs from the theatre where the mega illusion will take place.

As the 100 arrive at the Sinema Old School Theatre, there will be able to view us in our isolated black box and take photos and upload them to Facebook or Twitter. They will then be registered and each given a number tag from 1 – 100. The 100 will include impartial individuals from various media outlets.

Only when all 100 participants are seated in the theatre, will the representatives from the Singapore Book of Records and the International Brotherhood of Magicians escort us from the isolated black box to the theatre, where Ning & I will see the 100 people for the first time.

We will then proceed to read the 100 minds in 45min – 60min.

Check out for more details as we get closer to the date!
