One of things I had a chance to do this week was work a close-up gig. As my fee structure is by appearance and not by the type of show I do, I generally only do close-up for selective corporate & special events. That was one reason my “Urban Underground” formal close-up magic show was developed.
However, from time to time, I also perform what is known as mingling or roving magic. I used to do a ton of such work between 1993 – 2000.
Yesterday, I made an appearance for a bank’s securities services customer event. The marketing team organizing the event was very stringent and particular over the entertainment due to the nature of the guest list, comprising of high net worth individuals and partners.
I made a short list and finally got selected as the main entertainment for the exclusive event for about 70 people. Due to the nature of the networking event and venue, “Urban Underground” was not the right fit so I “suited up” and moved through and interacted with guests.
I think I have mentioned before that my style of close-up is not the traditional close-up because I try to perform for big groups at a time and not just one or two people.
The gig went great and it felt strange not having a truckload of illusions on stage to move around!
Here are some pics with imaginative captions to make it more interesting!
