Review for Christopher Ballinger’s “PERMANENT”

This my review of one of the newer effects on the magic market.

The Effect: The magician shows both sides of a Sharpie marker, and then rubs some of the ink off the side. The magician transfers their powers to a spectator so that they can do it themselves! Then, in the blink of an eye, the writing jumps back onto the marker. The Sharpie can be examined and used in your next routine.

Permanent is a relatively easy to perform effect. You will need to execute one simple sleight of hand move that you probably already know. If not, it is taught anyway. Over all, the teaching is clear enough although I felt the delivery was a tad dry and low-energy.

Everything you need is provided including the “gimmicked” Sharpie and necessary utilties.

I can see this as a nice filler “quickie” effect that preceeds a signed card/ coin as Christopher offers. It is not a stand alone effect but will work well if you are looking for a surreal visual effect amidst your standard card/ coin routines. If you like Mark Jenest’s No. 2 Pencil, the plot is similar but requires a set-up, which is not instant.
