I apologize for not blogging in a while. I received a few messages on why I seemed to be “missing from action”.
For one, I’ve been busy with multiple pitches and proposals for several projects that are fantastic opportunities for us. I’ve never signed so many non-disclosure agreements at one time for different projects. The NDAs naturally restrict me from discussing any of the projects but they are far from standard fare! It will be interesting to see how they pan out because we have designed some really crazy stuff for the gigs. Several will take us overseas in more ways than one so we are excited.
I, of course, have been working with the team on “The Urban Circus” hosted by ‘Magic Babe’ Ning which will be held this Sunday, 30 May 2010, 4.30pm at the Marine Parade Community Club Theatrette.
We are down to our last 20+ tickets so be sure not to miss out to be a very entertaining and unique show. It is a family show so bring the kids and make it a great afternoon out ending with a dinner nearby. Tickets will be available at the door but I recommend that you buy them online to ensure you can secure them. Buy tics at www.magicboutique.sg
I will not be performing in this show but will be producing the show from control. This has been a great little project – producing the show, theatrical elements and the sound design. I experimented with several different transitional elements that we have never used before in our shows and like the results.
For magic fans, I think you will be pleasantly surprised to see quite a number of magic & illusions acts that have a strong presentational twist or are very seldom seen. For example, I designed a brand new escape act for Larry the Daredevil Magician that will debut at “The Urban Circus”.
This is the only one of its kind in the world and is unique because it introduces “conflict” into a self-contained escape – something that is hardly seen. It takes Larry’s “One Handed Mail Bag Escape” to another level and when presented well is a suspenseful story with nice twists.
It was also pleasure working with Dean Wong, winner of our “Own the Stage” auditions earlier this year. Over the past few weeks, Dean got insight into how we work and produce an act. Our methods may be a tad unorthodox but are still very structured and systematic.
We trimmed his act down, polished up magic techniques, designed & fabricated new utilities, redesigned the music and worked on fundamental stagecraft. I believe his act has been elevated several notches and if remembers the three keys things I have stressed to him, he will do fabulously.
Ning’s costume for this production is smoking hot! When we first discussed the concept of the show and her role as host, she had a vision of the costume. Over the weeks, we put together the different parts of the wardrobe and the finished product is the definitive ring mistress with the signature “Magic Babe” spin. You have got to come down to see it!
Cya on Sunday!
