Touch Down in England

Ning & I touched down in Heathrow airport after our 13-hour flight. The flight was really comfortable because it was not full so we had a row of 3 seats to ourselves. Yay to great service and entertainment from SQ which makes time pass quite fast. I spent most of the time watching TV shows and movies.

We ended up not bringing our illusion as planned because we were over our excess baggage limit by too much and SQ wanted to charge us S$2000 + one way for the excess. I did not want the convention organizer to pay that much for excess so we loaded back the illusion in the car and went with just 3 pieces of luggage. My books weigh quite a bit so some weight is from there.

That’s the view of our hotel from across the lake. It is beautiful and the weather is perfect! We are in a renowned entertainment complex in Surrey which is about 45min from London. The Lakeside Complex is the only intergrated complex of its kind that boasts hotels, restaurants and a concert theatre club in a single complex.

We spent the morning today taking a walk down the ‘village’, having fun browsing a quaint houses, shops and buying freshed baked items from an English bakery. Check out Ning’s blog for photos I took of her on the ‘streets’ of suburban Firmbley in Surrey.

After that, it was basically work with a site inspection of the various rooms that we will be appearing in. Below are photos of the fantastic theatre club that we will be performng in. I will be opening for Ning who will be presenting her “Deadly Sexy Magic” act as the headlining performer of the Southern England Magic Convention. Her posters are everywhere!

My lecture will be held in another room and the largest room dedicated for a lecture. I’m currently refining my 90-min lecture material which is entitled “The Urban Classic Magic Show”. It will feature classic parlour and stage magic effects (NOT tricks) and illustrate how to build a modern day stage show for commercial audiences. The classics themselves are reinvented routines where I will share my modern interpretations on the technical handlings, methods, prop and presentation
on the following:

  • Building a Show VS Building an Act
  • Knife & Rope
  • Parlour Fork Bending
  • Structuring of Magic – Rule of 3, Story telling in Magic
  • Communication – Internal Dialogue
  • Miser’s Dream
  • Sub Trunk
  • Billiard Balls

Its great to know that many people are looking forward to seeing us. We have talked to some on the phone already! Many know me from my books and many know Ning as the hot Asian ‘Magic Babe’. Her reputation preceeds her and I know she will not disappoint. The convention goers will be happy to know that she will be part of my lecture as well 🙂
